1999-2000 GRANTS
Following is a summary of grants made under the environmental programs of The Curtis & Edith Munson Foundation in 1999 and 2000. Those programs include (in declining order of size) Marine/Fisheries Conservation, South Florida Environment, Alabama Environment, Population & Environment, Business & Environment, and District of Columbia Environment. Some grants are made for projects that cover both Alabama and Florida. Please know that except where noted, all grants carry a 1:1 match requirement. The second year of a two-year grant is subject to approval of progress on goals and objectives by the Board prior to the release of second-year funds.

Support for Reefkeeper’s work on coral reef conservation, fisheries management, and related marine resource protection issues.

Funding for annual amateur reef and other marine fish survey known as the Great American Fish Count in partnership with REEF, NOAA, and other marine organizations.
 
American Zoo & Aquarium Association 1999: $55,000

Funding for administration of Munson Aquatic Conservation Education award. 1999 Award winners were the Seattle Aquarium and the Waitkiki Aquarium. 2000 Award winners are the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden and the National Aquarium in Baltimore.

Support for species inventories on the Maryland portion of the Appalachian Trail.

Seed funding carrying a 2:1 match requirement for a graduate research fellowship in the marine sciences.

Support for work on biodiversity outreach and education, and for sprawl focus groups and other message development work.

Seed funding for policy work on Homestead Airbase redevelopment, Everglades restoration, National Park management, and other issues related to the protection of Biscayne Bay.
